For commencement in July 2018, we are offering a number of 2-year fixed-term traineeship opportunities across our Track & Signals and Track Renewals Rail Operations. Pending successful completion of the traineeship, full time employment opportunities may be available. Working in a hot and humid environment, all positions are day shift only, working 12-hour shifts. Track & Signals Maintenance Roles: Play an integral part in maintaining our Railway operations, in accordance with the BHP maintenance strategy. You will be responsible for maintaining the Railway operation in an operable condition in accordance with the BHP maintenance strategy and complete track maintenance activities safely, according to the agreed procedures and with minimal impact on railway availability. You will also be involved in undertaking preventive, corrective, emergency maintenance and repair work as required. OR: Track Renewals Roles: Be part of the track renewals team where you will maintain BHP Rail Infrastructure safely and according to agreed procedures, undertaking preventive, corrective, emergency rail repair work as required. Other duties will include operating and maintaining mobile flashbutt welders and accurately complete all required documentation and data entry. Both FIFO and Residential opportunities are available all on an 8:6 roster, across the following WA locations;
  • Residential in Newman
  • Residential in Port Hedland
  • FIFO from Perth to Yandi
  • Residential or FIFO from Perth to Mooka Rail Workshop
  • FIFO from Perth to Redmont
  • All residential applicants must be living local to either Newman or Port Hedland
  • All FIFO applicants must be living local to Perth
  • No relocation opportunities available

As the successful candidate, the following is essential:
  • A current and Valid Australian "C" class manual drivers license. No Learner or Probationary licenses
  • Current residence in chosen location (Perth/Port Hedland/Newman)
  • Computer literacy
  • Sound communication skills
  • A high commitment to safety systems and procedures
  • Reasonable level of Mechanical aptitude (desirable)
