About the job

This role manages and helps lead the Strategic Policy business group to assist the department to maintain a whole–of–government, long term approach to its legislative and operational policy development, its relationships with stakeholders, and its collaboration on state and national policy and programs.

Key duties and accountabilities

  • Provide expert advice to the Executive Director, Deputy Director-General, Director-General and Minister on a range of departmental and whole-of-government strategic policy initiatives.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Strategic Policy team to ensure provision of effective and high quality strategic policy advice.

  • Critically analyse proposals, reports and submissions in relation to departmental and whole of government priorities.

  • Prepare high quality policy papers, briefs, reports, including cabinet submissions and other significant policy and project management papers on departmental priorities and initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful negotiation on strategic policy initiatives.

  • Represent the department at a senior level as required, including on interdepartmental and intergovernmental meetings and associated management committees.

  • Ensure delivery of the divisions’ business in accordance with corporate policies, standards and accountabilities.
